Mid Atlantic is sensibility and style formed in and around Virginia, D.C & Maryland over the last century or so. It's not just a style though, it's an attitude, a set of values, a way of being and living in the world. Think historical roots, port cities, cultural mixing - not really Southern, at least not in the Deep South sense, and not really Northern either.
Think smart, witty, cultured, well dressed and unflaggingly polite. It's about putting out the Haviland china and good silverware but not "putting on airs" as my grandmother would say. In other words, have the real deal, don't flaunt it.
The vibe is subtle elegance, quality, craftsmanship...luxury with durability. Mid Atlantic style is about values, it's about taking the time to understand materials, craftsmanship and craftsmen. It's about investing in the finest things you can just barely afford, not being afraid to use them, and loving them even more when they show signs of age and wear. Less is more, the best is better.
Mid Atlantic Vintage was conceived by our founder, who grew up in an old hunting lodge on the bluffs overlooking the James River in Richmond, Virginia. Her adventurous parents exposed her to everything from equestrian eventing and fox hunting to fishing and hiking, while her anglophile grandmother taught her about etiquette, fine china, silverware, vases and furniture ...and also how to play Bridge.
She fell in love with textiles and fine fabrics and began collecting and sewing at a young age. Her fabric obsession and pension for the styles and quality craftsmanship of vintage clothing has inspired a lifetime of rummaging estate sales, thrift stores and vintage shops around the world. What started as a personal collection evolved into a business, as more and more people began to ask where they could find the same unique pieces.
Today, we are proud to share our passion for vintage fashion, quality clothing and homegoods. As the world is increasingly overrun with synthetic materials, disposable clothing and cheaply made goods of all kinds, it seems like a good time to focus on sourcing, saving, creating and sharing well made things you'll love and use for a long long time.
